B-H Will Seek New Afterschool Program Director

The Britton-Hecla Board of Education held their December meeting last Wednesday. At the meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Carol Beck as the Funtastic afterschool program director. A search for someone to fill the position will start soon.
The board moved to change the first reading of the Early Graduation policy to be the second and final reading. Regarding the policy, the deadline to notify the administration of a student’s wishes to graduate early was moved to the first nine weeks of their senior year. Formerly, it was during their junior year.  The second reading and final readings of the updated superintendent and business manager job descriptions were approved.
A 55-minute closed session was held for personnel matters and legal counsel. Following that session, the board moved to hire KSB School Law for policy services that will assist with implementing all new board policies over the next two years at the cost of $9500.
In other board business, a contract with Community Transit to transport students to and from Aberdeen at a rate of $100 per trip was approved. The Special Education Comprehensive Plan was approved with amendments.  The Safe Return & Continuity of Learning Plan was approved, as is a requirement every six months.
Several items were declared surplus including ten cafeteria tables, several tablets and laptops and sports equipment. Business Manager Kayla Hastings noted that the minimum wage increase in January will not affect the district as there are no employees that are being paid minimum wage.
Two students, Liam Paxton & Charles Schuller, performed their oral interpretation pieces for the group.
The next regular board meeting is Monday, Jan. 8 at 6:00 p.m. though it was noted that this may be rescheduled due to a conflict with sporting events.

Poll: TRUMP FIGHTS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY President Donald Trump recently hosted a UFC mixed martial arts event on the White House South Lawn as part of a celebration tied to his 80th birthday and the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary. Some people view it as no different than other entertainers and performers who have appeared at White House events under various presidents. Others believe a professional fighting event was not an appropriate use of the White House grounds. What do you think?
