LA SCHOOL BOARD

The Langford Area Board of Education held a meeting last week. A change in the calendar was discussed. Principal Mary Hosford explained that a training for the new STARS (Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System) system has been scheduled for Friday, Dec. 22. This tool will help the district track progress for state testing. There will be no class for students on that Friday. School will also get out early on Thursday.

The board also welcomed members of the senior internship class. The four students presented on their internships and discussed what they learned. Two students interned in the elementary school, one with the PE teacher and one at RDO Equipment in Webster.

In superintendent Shad Storley’s report, he discussed the playground project. Phase 1 is largely complete besides the sidewalk around the playground and a cement pad which will be finished in the spring. Storley added that the district is waiting on more information about Phase 2.

In other board business, one open enrollment for a student coming into the district was approved. Football was discussed again. The district is awaiting the Activities Association about whether or not they will dissolve one of the 9-man football classes. Storley stressed that they will have to make a decision about the sport early next year.
