Braves Fall Short In Three Outings

Britton-Hecla faced three teams with winning records during the past week and came up short in all three contests, dropping decisions to Aberdeen Roncalli 53-19, Leola-Frederick 64-28, and Deuel 77-51.

The Braves took a 1-13 record into a contest with Sisseton last night Tuesday and are back in action on Monday at Webster in a doubleheader with the girls’ team (JV girls 4 p.m., JV boys, varsity girls, varsity boys to follow).

Roncalli 53 Britton-Hecla 19

Britton-Hecla ran into a hot-shooting Roncalli squad and the lid was on the basket for the Braves.

The Cavaliers scored 12 of its first 15 points from beyond the arc, grabbing a 19-1 lead at the first quarter break. Dawson Treeby hit the first field goal for the Braves at the 7:24 mark of the second quarter to cut the margin to 214 but Roncalli followed that with another trey that sparked a 9-0 run for a 30-4 lead with 2:58 left in the opening half.

Britton-Hecla cut the lead to 32-10 at intermission but Roncalli decided the issue by scoring the first 14 points of the third quarter to boost its lead to 46-10.

The Braves managed just five field goals in the game, three of those by Treeby, who led B-H with 10 points. Jaxon Zuehlke hit five of six free tosses for five points.

Leola-Frederick 64 Britton-Hecla 28 Leola-Frederick grabbed a 15-point halftime lead and then put the game away by outscoring the Braves 12-2 in the third stanza.

Daniel Person led B-H with 12 points.

Deuel 77 Britton-Hecla 51

Deuel led by just nine at intermission but outscored the Braves 36-19 over the final two quarters.

Ashton Mills led the local cagers with nine points.
