CHARLES JOHN FROHLING

The funeral service for Charles John Frohling, 87, of Hecla, SD, will be 10:30am, Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Reverand Jacob Smith officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Aberdeen. Charles died Wednesday, October 18, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.

Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Aberdeen. Charles died Wednesday, October 18, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 5:007:00pm, Thursday, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Charles John Frohling was born November 8, 1935, to John H. and Johanna K. (Widstrom) Frohling in Hecla, SD. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural grade school. He played football at Hecla High School and was on the team that beat Claremont. After graduating, Charles continued to farm all of his life.

On September 10, 1988, Charles married Muriel Lindquist in Aberdeen. Muriel passed away on February 22, 1998.

Charles was united in marriage to Janice Pappal in Britton, SD, on February 3, 2001.

Charles was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hecla where he held various offices. After it closed, he became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He enjoyed watching western movies and football. He was an avid NSU basketball fan and went to many games. Fishing was a favorite pass time of his. In his younger years he also enjoyed hunting. Charles was a kind and generous man who loved his Lord dearly. He truly loved his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Charles’s life are his wife Janice Frohling; his step-sons: Michael (Stephanie) Pappal, Nathan (Carrie) Pappal, Mark (Susanne) Pappal, and Aaron (Becky) Pappal; step-grandchildren: Ashley Pappal, Alexa (Travis) Anderson, Emma Pappal, Nicole (Nathan) Ross, Nate Pappal, Cassie Pappal, Hannah Pappal, Meredith Pappal, Matthew Hartkop, Greta Hartkop, Victor Hartkop, Julianne Hartkop, Vanessa Pappal, and Dakota Pappal; step-great-grandchildren: Charlotte Anderson, Aurora Anderson, Roland Pappal, and Gianna Pappal; two brothers: Virgil (Myrtis) Frohling and Leslie (Dixie) Frohling; sisterin- law: Marilyn Frohling; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Charles in death are his parents: John and Johanna Frohling; his first wife Muriel; stepson: Philip Pappal; two brothers: Norman Frohling and Eugene Frohling; his sister-inlaw: Delores Frohling; and his grandparents.
