OPAL J. KANN

The memorial service for Opal J. Kann will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Britton. Dr. Lance Griese will officiate the service.

The memorial service for Opal J. Kann will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Britton. Dr. Lance Griese will officiate the service.

Opal Umberger was born on March 8, 1937 to Ralph and Florence (Cease) Umberger in Britton, SD. Growing up she attended school in Britton. She was an excellent speller and won many spelling bees.

On April 13, 1953 Opal was united in marriage to Kenneth Kann. They made their home on the family farm near Britton. To this union seven children were born: Debbie, Greg, Carol, George, Sandra, Clinton and Steve. As she said, “I had seven children in six years and all by the time I was 22.” She was so proud of her children.

Over the years she worked various jobs in the Britton area, along with the family farm and hay moving business. Throughout her life she always showed strength and resilience and will be remembered for all of her hard work. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed making meals and treats for family and friends. She made the best potato salad in all of South Dakota!

Opal passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton, at the age of 86.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Deb Wilhelmi of Horace, ND; Greg (Pam) Kann of Buena Vista, CO; Carol (Melvin) Terry of Burton, MI; Clinton (Lisa) Kann of Britton; Steve (Shelly) Kann of Langford; 18 grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; son-in-law, Mark Ellingson of Britton; daughter-in-law, Molly Kann of Britton, and sister-in-law, Audrey Kann of Aberdeen, SD.

Preceding in death by her husband Kenneth; son, George; daughter, Sandra Ellingson; and son-in-law, Mike Wilhelmi.
