The 11th Annual Veblen Summer Bash last weekend was a fun time with beautiful weather. Many people came out to enjoy the festivities.
The events got started bright and early Saturday with the 5K Run. Over 90 runners and walkers participated in the event. Winners were awarded in several categories based on age.
Female: 14 and under-Cheyenne Braaten (33:06), 15-18- Cristal Lopez (37:21); 19-29- Sadie Baus (55:58); 30-39- Martha Villalvazo (36:22); 40-49: Karie Geyer (30:36); 50+: Lynn Storbakken (35:14).
Male: 14 and under: Mario Alvarez (26:42): 15-18 Holstrom Sanchez (35:40); 19-29: Hanier Hernandez Perez (23:01); 30-39: Oscar Galan Trejo (19:07); 40-49: Helstrom Sanchez (29:22); 50+: Troy Hanson (24:55).
The car show was again a popular attraction on Saturday. There was a good selection of about 35 cars and many spectators to see the vehicles. Trophies were awarded based on the type of cars by the displaying teams. All spectators were able to vote on the “People’s Choice” Award.
The winners by category were as follows: Ford- 1969 Merc Cruser, Maurice Kutter, Lidgerwood ND; GM-1964 Impella SS , Bernie and Pat Nordhagen, Lisbon ND; Mopar-1965 Coronet 500, Jerry Hornseth, Veblen SD; Motorcycle- 2017 Harley Flight Chute, Larry Halbert,LakeTraverse;Pickup-1995 Chevy Cheyenne, Beckie & Ken Williams Lisbon ND; Open- 1997 Custom Wagon, Terry Wolters, Enderlin ND; People’s Choice- 2017 Harley Flight Chute, Larry Halbert, Lake Traverse; Best in Show-1997 Custom Wagon, Terry Wolters, Enderlin ND.
The evening culminated with the main event, the Summer Bash Rodeo.
Rodeo results were as follows: Senior Bareback: Grady Hemmingson; Jr. Bareback: Knute Hemmingson; Ranch Bronc: Tie- Brian Hoff, Lyndon Bluedog; Sr. Barrels: Sidney Schonoff; Jr. Barrels: Tarynn Gilbert; Sr. Bullriding: Lyndon Bluedog; Jr Bullriding: Adrian Shepherd; Mini Bulls: (Tie) Emerson Sine and Yancy Cook; Team Roping: Brandon Knutson and Chance Rosencrans.
Next year’s Veblen Summer Bash is planned for August 24.
