Suther Wins Regional Homer Championship

Chance For National Contest

Ben Suther of Langford is a regional home run champion.

The 14-year-old son of Adam and Kayla Suther of Langford hit five home runs out of 25 swings to win the U14 regional title. The event was held at the University of Minnesota Gophers baseball complex last weekend.

Suther is now part of a pool of top performers from regions around the country that are eligible to compete in the national home run contest that will be held in Seattle, WA, during the major league All-Star Game that is set for July 11. Those finalists will not be selected until all regional competitions are completed on July 1 and the top eight or nine players will be picked based on scores in the 10 regional events.

Suther won a regional qualifier several weeks ago when the Britton U14 team competed in a tournament in Bismarck, ND, to advance to the region last weekend.

Players are allowed 25 swings in three minutes and hit off of a pitching machine. Suther slammed four homers over the 200-foot fence in the first round and then hit five in the finals against participants from South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota to top the field.
