904 Pounds Of Fish Caught

In Annual Roy Lake Tourney

A total of 22 two-person teams competed in the 21st Harvey Thayer Memorial Fishing Tournament at Roy Lake June 10-11 and hauled in a whopping 904 pounds of fish in the two days.

Northerns, walleyes, and bass were eligible to be counted in weight totals and the duo of Adam Buller and DJ Stelzer caught 71.8 pounds of fish to take top honors. The winners caught a pair of big northerns that boosted their total, including an 11.5-pounder that was the biggest caught on Saturday and an eight-pounder on Sunday.

Landon Thayer and Jerod Hudelson finished second with 63.6 pounds and their total included the largest walleye on Sunday at 7.9 pounds. Dave Siebel and Ty Scott caught 57 pounds to place third and had the largest walleye on Saturday at 6.8 pounds. Tyler Thayer and Scott Thayer placed fourth with 51.2 pounds, and Chris and John Eye caught 47.9 pounds for fifth place. Shayla and Cassie Olson earned recognition for the last place team with 21.1 pounds.

Paul Thayer’s team landed the largest bass on Saturday at 4.4 pounds, and Dustin Miles’ team caught the largest bass on Sunday at 4.1 pounds. The Rick Smith team caught the largest northern on Sunday at 9.4 pounds.

There were nine walleyes caught over five pounds during the two days and eight northerns over five pounds.
