B-H Hires New Elem. Teacher

The Britton-Hecla Board of Education met on Wednesday and handled more staffing matters.  Kara Schultz was hired as a new elementary teacher.
The board accepted track coach resignations from Kari Furman and Beth Renner effective at the end of the season. Unpaid leave requests were approved for three staff members.
Various annual renewals and memberships were approved, including workers compensation and health insurance, health services and the Activities Association membership.
In his superintendent’s report, Steve Benson noted a Homeland Security grant was approved for the use of a new camera system to detect traffic around the school. Benson also discussed hiring and new staff and noted that they will have to monitor the budget especially given the new state legislation mandating teacher salary minimums.
In other business, a six-burner range was surplused. Language changes were made in the non-discrimination policy.
At the end of the meeting, a two-and-a-half-hour executive session was held, after which the negotiated agreement was approved.
A special meeting will be held today (Wednesday, April 17) at 3:30 for negotiations.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for May 13 at 6 p.m.
