Britton-Hecla senior Aidan Fredrickson drove to the hoop against a Groton Area defender in the Braves’ season opener on Saturday and led the local cagers with 21 points.
Groton Area spoiled Britton-Hecla’s season opener Saturday afternoon with a 70- 49 victory in boys basketball play.
Langford Area graduate Ady Dwight was named to the NAIA first All-American Volleyball Team. She was the first in the history of Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball to earn the honor.
Langford Area graduate Chance Olson was named to the Division II Coach’s Association second All-American Football Team. Olson was second in all of Division II with seven pass interceptions this season.
When an athlete is recognized as an All-American they are among elite company. What about two graduates hailing from the same high school with just over 50 students in grades 9-12 being named to All-American teams the same week? Now that is rarified air.
Britton-Hecla boys basketball fans will see a different look on the court this season as first-year coach Troy Knecht and his charges open the season by hosting Groton Area on Saturday afternoon.

The Britton-Hecla wrestling squad opened its season at the Clark-Willow Tournament on Saturday and came home with first and fourth place finishes.
Britton-Hecla’s Sterling Brassfield drove the base line for two of her 11 points in the Lady Braves opener against Northwestern. The Lady Braves are not back home until Jan. 6
The final result was not the way the Britton-Hecla girls basketball team wanted to open its 2021-22 campaign, but the Lady Braves served notice that they will be competitive this season in a 51-49 loss to Northwestern.
