Trapshooters 36th In Nation
The Britton-Hecla/ Langford trapshooting team took another step forward with a 36th place finish at the High School Clay Target League National Championship in Mason, MI, last weekend.
The finish was 14 spots better than a year ago when the squad placed 50th in the first-ever national high school shoot. Dane Feldhaus was the top individual placer, taking 26th in a field of nearly 1,700 shooters.
“The kids did well,” said Coach Ray Effling. “They stepped up and were not very far out of the top 20 with 207 teams competing. The competition is just tough.”
Britton-Hecla/Langford ended the first day of competition in the 28th spot, breaking 467 of 500 targets with the top 80 squads advancing to Sunday’s finals. Opening round team scores included Tynan Bennett with a personal best 97, Feldhaus 96, Carter Effling 94, Taylor Dinger 92, and Jordan Dawson 88. All of the local shooters shot a perfect 25 at some point during the team’s qualifying round
