Teeners Come Up Short

One Game Away From State Tourney

The Claremont U16 Teener baseball team came up one game short of advancing to the state tournament in regional tournament play last week.

Claremont stopped Hamlin 3-2 in the opening round and blanked Baltic 12-0 to earn a semifinal berth, but then dropped a pair of decisions to Garretson 6-1 and Elkton 8-0 in the double elimination tourney.

“When you get in region tourney play and have four games in two days, pitching can definitely become challenging,” said Claremont coach Mike Frey. “There are also some pitcher/catcher rules for innings and pitches allowed, and when most of our pitchers are also catchers, that presents another challenge to the situation. But all-in-all, the U16 team competed well in the regional.”
