Lions Give Rival Warner Scare In 1B Quarterfinals
Seventh-seeded Langford Area threw a scare into second-seeded Warner when the long-time rivals met in the quarterfinals of the Region 1B tournament last week Tuesday, but the Monarchs held on for a 39-36 victory.
Warner had defeated the Lions by 14 points during the regular season.
The Monarchs led at all the quarter breaks but never by more than four points. Warner led 17-15 at halftime in a defensive battle and boosted that to 29-26 after three periods. The Lions did take the lead in the fourth stanza before Warner rallied for the win.
“It was a tough loss, but we did a lot of things well to put ourselves in a position to win this game,” said LA boss Paul Raasch. “We just couldn’t close the deal at the end. Defensively I was very pleased with our effort, and on the offensive end we were aggressive and attacked well but just had a tough time scoring.
