ROGER G. ORMAND
The memorial service for Roger G. Ormand, 72, Aberdeen, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Aberdeen, with Pastor Donald Buck officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24.
Roger died on Friday, June 14, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Visitation will be 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday with family present 5:00-7:00, and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
Roger was born on July 24, 1946, to John and Olga (Olson) Ormand, and was raised on the family farm near Hillhead. He graduated from Veblen High School in 1965, then joined the army on December 2, 1965, serving as a Sergeant E5 Military Policeman. Roger left the army on December 1, 1967, with an Honorable Discharge.
Roger married JoAnn Myhre in June of 1969. From this union came three children, Troy, Tara, and Travis.
On April 20, 1979, he married Marjorie Filegar. To this union came Hope and Heidi.
Roger worked at Dick’s Westside from the early seventies to 1997, and owned Roger’s Towing from 1979-1997. He was also a police officer for the City of Aberdeen from 1973-1997. He was then a truck foreman for Lien’s Transportation until 2011.
His hobbies included work, camping, spending time in his garage, and watching golf, football and the news. He loved doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time at Bethesda Adult Day Care doing arts and crafts, baking, and the friendships made there.
Grateful for having shared Roger’s life are his wife of forty years, Marjorie Ormand, Aberdeen; children, Roger (Staci) Ormand, Tara (Evan) Vostad, Travis Ormand, Hope (Brad) Tollefson, and Heidi (John) Eimers, grandchildren, Sierrah, Ashton, Kaleb, Hayden, Broc, Bailey, Mallory, Regan, Easton, Emersyn, and Emsley; siblings, Pat (Connie) Ormand, Ed Ormand, Joanne (Ed) Kessler, Peggy Satrang, and Larry Ormand.
Preceding Roger in death are his parents, John and Olga Ormand, and brother, Owen Ormand.
