Riley James Hill was born on March 8, 1972 in Britton, SD. He attended Britton High School and is known for his wrestling legacy. One of his most cherished memories is being crowned the 1987 South Dakota State Wrestling Champion at 105. Recently, he was reunited with his lucky #2 wrestling warm-up hoodie and joked he could almost wear it again.
Riley married the love of his life, Kari Elgethun, on November 2, 2002. For nearly 18 years, they built an amazing life and welcomed their beautiful daughter, Quinn Rebecca, in 2009. Quinn had Riley wrapped around her finger from day one.
When Riley moved east to Minneapolis, MN, many believed it was for a job opportunity. We all know it was so Riley could be that much closer to his beloved Green Bay Packers. If devotion translates into winning stats, Riley’s devotion is the reason for the Packers’ winning season. He loved road trips to see them play at Lambeau Field over the years.
Riley had an engaging personality and was committed to lifelong friendships. He loved to spend time with friends and family. He always had a smirk on his face with a quick oneliner at the ready. Britton’s Harvest Days, Buffalo Wild Wings, heavy metal music and UFC were some of his favorites. In the end, we all become stories by the words that capture and honor our spirit. Riley’s story will continue on in the memories made with his family and friends.
On October 30, 2020, Riley James Hill, loving husband and father, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. He was 48 years young and battled the toughest match of his life with courage and dignity during his year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Although his life was too short, it was well-lived. Riley will be missed every day by his wife, Kari, daughter, Quinn, his parents, Dennis Hill and Lorrie Horn, his sisters, Shelly (Hill) Henley and Tracy Hill, his brother, Joe Hill, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, a special niece, his in-laws and many great friends.
Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Dennis Hill – Box 443 – Britton, SD 57430.
