RAYMOND KAY WEICK

Raymond Kay Weick, age 93, of Tucson, AZ, died on July 9, 2021, with his wife of 68 years, Eileen, by his side. Ray was born in Mitchell, SD September 2, 1927 to John Elmer Weick and Myrtle Melinda Coombs Weick and lived on the family farm near Plankinton, SD.

Ray attended a rural country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Plankinton High School. Ray joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Sylvania in the Marshall Islands. After discharge from the Navy, he attended South Dakota State University with an animal science major. He was most proud for being the Manager of the Little International at SDSU in 1951. After graduation he began his career in the Extension Service as a State 4H Club Agent in South Dakota and in Yuma County, AZ. Ray earned a Masters of Science degree from Michigan State university and a Doctor of Education from North Carolina State University. He subsequently moved to Tucson, AZ to the University of AZ, serving in various positions including District Supervisor, Assistant to the Director, and Assistant Director of Extension until retirement in 1989.

Ray married Eileen Faye Brudos of Lake City, SD, on June 27, 1953. He is survived by his wife Eileen, and their four children; Joni Boulware (Doug Drexler), Dana Weick (Debbie), Bari Weick (Karen), Kori Henderson (Jim), seven grandchildren: Erica Parten (Bryce), Rebecca Cosarba (George), Sara Rollinger (Tristian), Alex Weick (Sam), Leila and Marcus Weick. Great grandfather to Ford Parten, Lena, Isla and Annie Cosarba.

Ray’s retirement passion was Dog Agility competitions and he and Eileen, with their Champion dog, Meaghan, formed a winning dog agility team as they traveled in an RV across the U.S. and into Canada entering competitions. Ray and Eileen spent most of their retirements summers at Eileen’s ancestral home, the Curtis/Brudos Six Mile Ranch near Lake City, SD.
