LORRAINE ROSE (SWANSON) MCLAEN

Forman, ND: Lorraine Rose (Swanson) McLaen passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman with her family at her side. She was 92 years of age.

A private family funeral service is being planned and will be live streamed on the Price Funeral Chapel Face Book page at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021. Rev. Julie Johnson will officiate and spring interment will be in the Rutland Cemetery of Rutland, ND.

Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, SD.

Lorraine was born to Clarence and Matilda (Grimsrud) Swanson in Kidder, South Dakota on March 5, 1928. She graduated from Kidder High School in 1944 at the age of 16. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD receiving her teaching certification. Lorraine taught school for two years in a country school.

She married Alvin L. McLaen on June 25, 1947 at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church. After eleven years of farming in South Dakota they moved to a farm near Rutland, North Dakota where they resided for over 40 years.

After moving to the Rutland area, Lorraine worked at the Skogmo Store, Martinsen’s Hardware and Lumber Company, and the Sargent County Farm Bureau office.

She served as President of the Sargent County Women’s Farm Bureau and was on the North Dakota Farm Bureau Women’s Board for twenty years. Lorraine served as the Cancer Crusade Director for Sargent County in 1973. She received the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Four Seasons Nursing Home.

Lorraine was a member of the Rutland Garden Club, Rutland Homemaker’s Club, and a women’s bowling team. She was a 4-H leader for many years.

Lorraine was a talented seamstress and quilter, sewing a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her seven children: Roger (Caryn) McLaen of Forman, ND; Ronald (Dawn) McLaen of Nevis, MN; Beverly (Newgene) Ray of Gilbert, AZ; Susan (Harvey) Kleingarn, Forman, ND; Mary (Jim) Banna of Gilbert, AZ; Steven (Janell) McLaen of Forman, ND; and Stuart (Linda) McLaen of Lingle, WY. She is survived by her 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Matilda; her husband, Alvin; her sister and brother-in-law Pearline and Robert Greeno, brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Jane Swanson, her husband’s brothers and wives, Milton and Danene McLaen and Clayton and Mille McLaen and one grandchild Scottie Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
