KATHLEEN “SUE” VRCHOTA

Kathleen Vrchota, 88, of Forman, ND, formerly of Veblen, SD, passed away on June 1, 2019.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John de Britto Catholic Church, Britton. There will be visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Kathleen Dora Vrchota was born on February 7, 1931, to Harley and Winnifred (Corcoran) McLaughlin, in Marshall County, South Dakota. She attended Marshall County Country Schools and went to high school in Britton. Her brothers, when she was younger, gave her the nickname Sue that she went by her whole life. (She was number 12 of 13 kids).

On February 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Vrchota at St. John de Britto Catholic Church, Britton, at 7 a.m. They made their home in Hillhead. Out of her marriage there were 4 kids born: Harry, Harriet Ann, Betty and Susan. She worked a part time job at Hillhead bar and Streeds Bees. In the spring of 1963 their house blew up in Hillhead. They then moved a half mile east of Hillhead.

In 1977, they sold the farm and moved to Veblen. She then worked at the Dakota Pillow Factory. After Lawrence passed away, she continued to live in Veblen until 2008 when she moved to Dakota Estates, Lidgerwood, ND. She then went to Four Season’s Nursing Home, Forman, ND, until she passed away.

She liked to garden and enjoyed camping and fishing, Red Iron Lake was the best! She also loved to sew, and one of the things Sue was known for was the great peanut brittle she would make with her husband at Christmas time. She was a member of the Britton V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Harry; daughters, Harriet Ann and Susan; granddaughter, Harriet Sue; grandson, Lance; and 12 siblings.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Vrchota, Veblen; grandchildren, Lee Vrchota, Claire City, SD, Stacy Vrchota, Minneapolis, MN, Barbi & Dave Eberle, Apopka, FL, Kristine DeLarosby, Prior Lake, MN, Kathleen Vrchota, Fargo, ND, Shaun Vrchota, Lucas and Sadie Siemieniewski, Geneseo, ND, Wendy and Ryan Hanson, Forman, ND, Becky and Josh Myhra, Wahpeton, ND; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Leo), Davenport, IA, and Letha (Harlan) Cartwright, Cabool, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
