Joyce passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton at the age of 82.
Joyce Helen McLaughlin was born on November 22, 1936, in Britton to John Michael and Dorothy Elva (Traphagen) McLaughlin of Havana, ND. As a youngster, she grew up there and graduated from Havana High School in 1955.
On June 1, 1958, Joyce was united in marriage with Edwin O. Brubakken at the First Lutheran Church in Britton. They made their home in Britton where they raised their two children. For over 50 years Joyce worked in the medical field. She started as an aide in the Britton Hospital and then worked for Dr. Shousha at his clinic for several years. Her last job was as a medical technician at the Marshall County Medical Clinic.
Joyce was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Britton and had been active in the ladies group there. For a number of years she belonged to one of the Marshall County Extension Clubs, and also bowled on a team in the ladies league. Joyce was an avid reader and a great fan of the Minnesota Twins. Perhaps most of all, Joyce enjoyed being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren.
Over her lifetime, Joyce dedicated her life to health and the well-being of others. She will be dearly missed by the love of her life, Edwin, and her family members.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 61 years, Edwin Brubakken of Britton; her two children, Dawn (James) Brubakken-Sauer of Madison, WI, and Corey (Janet) Brubakken of Rapid City; five grandchildren, Adam (Kati) Brubakken, Carly (Taylor) Burzynski, Andrew Brubakken, Collin Brubakken, and Shae Sauer; two brothers, Gordon (Donna) McLaughlin of Oakes, ND, and Cal (Dorothy) McLaughlin of Watertown; and a number of nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, Cason Brubakken; and two brothers, Richard and Kenneth McLaughlin.
Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Edwin Brubakken, P. O. Box 566, Britton, SD 57430.
