James Scott Halverson, The Bear, 55, passed away on February 17, 2020, in Scottsdale, AZ.

The family will celebrate Jim’s life with a memorial in South Dakota later this spring where they will honor a life lived to the fullest. According to Jim “if you’re not living life on the edge you’re taking up too much space.”

Jim was born on June 25, 1964, to James and Barbara (Kromer) Halverson in Veblen. He grew up in Veblen with his two brothers, Michael and Clayton, and three sisters, Susan (Carlson), Laurie (Petermeier), and Mary (VanMatre), attending our Savior’s Lutheran Church and graduating from Veblen High School.

In 1983 Jim moved to Colorado to begin his professional life. He then was drawn to California, and after a few years relocated to Arizona, where he was employed with Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

Jim loved his family and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them, be it a wedding, graduation, or a special occasion. With his quick wit, one liners, and jovial attitude he was the life of the party. He liked to say “life is for the living.”

Jim was revered by many. His unconditional kindness and warmth drew people to him. His positive attitude was infectious and it was hard not to grin just being in his presence. It is no surprise he made deep friendships that last to this day.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James, and sister, Laurie (pictured with him).
