JACQULYN “JACKIE” LOUISE (WILGERS) KNEBEL
Jacqulyn “Jackie” Louise (Wilgers) Knebel, 71, of Eden, left this earthly world on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at her home in rural Eden, SD, with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Eden with Fr. Brian Simon as Celebrant.
Pallbearers included Marlin Krump, Marty Jensen, Mike Jensen, Thad Jensen, Adam Okroi, Joey Okroi, Dylan Kirchmeier, and Cameron Fischer. Honorary Pallbearers were Dominic Knebel, Dorothy Steiner, Rosie Manikowski, Helen Mairs, Diana Crandall, Christine Babekuhl, Kathy Hanisch, Terri Tjaden, and Judy Opitz.
Jackie was born on February 21, 1947, in Britton to Richard “Dick” Wilgers and Betty Lou (Oland) Wilgers. She grew up in Lake City and attended school in Lake City and Britton. She was baptized at Lake City Lutheran Church and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Britton.
On March 12, 1966, she was united in marriage to LeRon Knebel at Eden, SD. The couple lived in Aberdeen, Lake City, Fargo, and finally settled on the Schlekewy/ Knebel family ranch near Eden, where she lived until her dying breath. To this union were born four children: Londra Lynn, John Paul, Peggy Jo, and Basil Lambert.
She had many different jobs over the years, including Nash Finch Foods and Osco Drug in Fargo, several of the local bar/cafes, South House Nutrition, and Greenleaf Assisted Living, finally retiring due to health.
Jackie was a woman with a larger-than-life personality who was known to give and share with the biggest heart you could imagine. No one entered her house without receiving a cup of coffee and something to eat. She loved to cook, make numerous ornaments, crafts, and sewing projects which she lovingly shared with family, friends, and strangers alike. Jackie was very proud to be Mrs. Claus during Santa’s busy season for the past 30 years.
Since 1999, heart problems have plagued Jackie’s life including several heart attacks, surgeries, and other maladies that left her ill and not always able to be as active as she would like.
Left to mourn her death is her husband of almost 53 years, LeRon; her 101 yearold father-in-law Lambert Knebel; her children, Londra (Burney) Fleming of Winterville, NC, Peggy (Danny) Kirchmeier of Webster, and Basil (Kelly Lynn) Knebel of Eden; sisters, Jani (Ralph) Aune of Oakes, ND, and Jerri (Ron) McKinley of Sioux Falls; a sister-in-law, Cindy Wilgers of Sioux Falls; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gary (Rachelle) Knebel of Roslyn, Mary (John) Spicer of Wessington, and Bonnie (Vince) Sigaty of Lake City; her grandchildren, Adam Okroi, Katherine Okroi, Joey (Megan) Okroi, Dylan Kirchmeier, Kayla Kirchmeier, Madelynn Knebel, Dominic Knebel, Hannah Knebel, and Elizabeth Knebel; four great-grandchildren, as well the love of John’s life, Beth Anderson and her children, Cameron and Payten Fischer of Eden; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; as well as others she loved like her own and who were close to her heart.
Those who preceeded her in death include her parents, Richard and Betty Lou Wilgers; her brother Rick Wilgers; her beloved son, John Knebel just 4 months ago; her mother in law, Lucille Knebel; and her grandparents Bill and Lillian Wilgers and Nels and Ruth Oland; and many aunts and uncles.
