Lake City, SD: Georgia Janisch passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, surrounded by her family at the age of 84.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family Mass of Christian Burial is being planned. Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery of Eden under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton. A recording of the service will be available on our website on Sunday, November 29, 2020.
Georgia Joan Gollnick was born May 14, 1936 in Webster, SD to T.J. and Margaret (Sass) Gollnick. As one of nine children she grew up on the family farm near Lily and attended rural Day County schools. She then attended and graduated from Webster High School.
On May 21, 1965 Georgia was married to Raymond (Tody) Janisch in Lily, SD. They made their home on the original Janisch homestead three miles north of Eden, on the hill near Stink Lake.
Georgia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, and had been active in the Altar Society. She took pride in her baking and cooking, as well as maintaining the home. She was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed gardening, and had a big heart for all animals but especially her house cat and family dog. She looked forward to family gathering at the farm, from her children and grandchildren. She donated to many charities such as ASPCA and the American Red Cross.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 55 years, Raymond (Tody) Janisch; her three children: Lisa (Eric) Mentele of Sioux Falls, SD, Jill (Eric) Johnson of Shakopee, MN and Kim Janisch of Prior Lake, MN; two grandchildren, Ethan and Ellie Mentele; step grandson, Jesse Johnson; as well as a brother, David Gollnick of Webster.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her baby boy; brothers; Ambrose, Norbert, Raymond, Herman; and her sisters, Treva, Olive and Geraldine.
