The memorial service for David Warzeka will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, at Lake City Community Center in Lake City. Fr. Albert Cizewski will officiate. Memorial visitation will be one hour preceding the service.

David passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019, after a short illness with MDSMyelodysplastic Syndrome, a blood disorder in the bone marrow. He was 71 years of age.

David Lee Warzeka was born on June 13, 1947, in Veblen to Gilbert and Susan (Braaten) Warzeka. He was baptized, had his first communion, and was confirmed at our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church in Havana, ND.

David graduated from Havana High School in 1965. He lettered in basketball for the Havana Arrows. Following high school, he attended college and obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Business.

He grew up loving the lakes, and spent all of his spare time fishing with his parents and grandparents at their cabin on Clear Lake.

In 1969, he served three years in the US Army. For 25 months he was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., working with top secret and security Intelligence Clearance. He was discharged early with military honors, due to the illness of his father. He then helped run his father’s liquor business in Havana until it was sold.

In 1974, he began his lifelong career at Melroe Manufacturing Co. in Gwinner, ND, producing Bobcat Skid Steer Loaders. He retired in 2004 after 30 years with Bobcat/Doosan, in manufacturing and production management. His last two years with Doosan were spent in Bismarck, ND, flying back and forth each week. He was committed to his work and made lasting friendships with all of his co-workers.

In 2004 he married the love of his life, Eileen Leguee, whom he met in 1990. They purchased their dream home in 1993 on Clear Lake, Lake City, SD. Together they lived, laughed and loved, along with helping raise Eileen’s daughter, Amy, and all of their fur babies that enriched their lives. He loved the serenity of the lake, camping, fishing and boating to the max. Oh, the fish stories he could tell!

Each day was a new experience in their life. He had a passion for sports (Go Vikings and NDSU!), but loved to watch all the teams of every sport. He was a loyal member of the Havana American Legion and VFW. He also was involved in the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited, volunteering his time willingly.

Dave’s huge heart, and his giving of himself to help others, will be deeply missed by his loving family. May God richly bless the memory of David.

David is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Eileen; his step-daughter, Amy; sister, Mary (Don) Cusick of Lake City; mother-in-law, Ardis Leguee of Crookston, MN; sister-in-law, Becky (Tony) Siani of Dallas, GA; brother-in-law, Rory (Loretta) Leguee of Gold Beach, OR; his nieces and nephews; and his Godchild, Kara.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Susan Warzeka; his maternal grandparents, Ord and Evangeline Braaten; his paternal grandparents, John and Mary Warzeka; his father-in-law, Gordon Leguee; and brother-in-law, Bill Leguee.
