Carmen D. Tom, a longtime resident of Maple Valley, WA, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018.

Services were held on Saturday, April 28, at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup, WA.

Carmen was born on April 26, 1926, in Britton to John and Alma Tom. He attended school in Britton and studied at Whapeton School of Science.

Carmen married Donna Hansen of Pierpont on June 19, 1949, in Britton. They relocated to the Seattle area in 1951. There they began their family, raising four sons, John (Katy), Michael, Eugene (Hong Soung), and the late Russell.

Carmen’s passion for motorcycles lead him to starting Tom’s Cycles on MLK Way in Tacoma. He was known for selling anything and everything a motorcycle enthusiast could desire. In 1983 Carmen became an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer and changed the name of the store to Downtown Harley-Davidson. He later passed the business on to his son Russell but never gave up his passion for bikes and even gained the title of Eldest Rider in the 2001 Bonehead Enduro. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the motorcycle community.

Carmen is survived by his siblings, Alexander Tom (Seattle, WA), Ivan Tom (Belleview, WA), Phillip Tom, Roger Tom, and Judy Ewings (all of Britton); his sons, John, Michael, and Eugene; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Tom; wife, Donna; son, Russell; and siblings, Marion Mydland, Jerry Tom, Darlene Selle, and Reuben Tom.
