BARBARA J. HAYEN

The Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara J. Hayen was held on Saturday, February 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Forman. Rev. Fr. Timothy Schroeder celebrated the mass, and interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery of Cogswell, ND. The Price Funeral Chapel of Forman has been entrusted with Barb’s arrangements.

Barb passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Oakes Community Hospital in Oakes at the age of 82, with her family at her side.

Barbara Jeanne Moe was born on August 10, 1937, in Britton to Jalmer Christopher Moe and Bertha (Anderson) Moe. She lived with her parents in Rutland, ND, until she was five years old and then they moved to Forman, ND. She graduated from Forman High School in 1955.

On September 24, 1955, Barbara married John LeRoy Hayen at Cogswell, ND. Although raised as a “city girl,” Barb embraced rural life, and became a very dedicated farm wife. She and John farmed in the Cogswell area until moving into Forman, ND, in 2011. They were currently residing in Four Seasons Villa assisted living.

Barb’s faith and her church were very important to her. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell, as circle leader, directed the children’s choir, and played the organ for 35 years. Barb was also active in Cogswell Community Club and attended many kids’ school events. Music was a big part of Barb’s life, and she enjoyed playing, singing and dancing. She was very good at cutting and styling women’s hair and made the best “G’ma B” donuts and buns. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing pinochle with anyone who would play with her, and enjoyed going to Florida in the winter. Barb will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her ability to make everyone smile. She was truly loved by all!

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Hayen of Forman; five daughters, Debra (Bardie) Skjonsberg of Detroit Lakes, MN, Diane (Todd) Stein of Cogswell, ND, Laura (Scott) Olsen of Britton, Tina Larson of Lincoln, NE, and Stephanie (Russell) Waloch of Baldwin, ND; her grandchildren, Matthew (Billie Stout) Breker of Oxbow, ND, Rachel Olson of Forman, Alex (Shantel) Breker of Glen Ullin, ND, John Breker of Grand Forks, ND, Emily Skjonsberg of Detroit Lakes, MN, Anthony (Alexia) Stein of Fargo, ND, Trenten (Autumn Magee) of Cogswell, Tera (Marc) Gunnarson of Hudson, IA, Mallary (Darin) Schiele of West Fargo, ND, Blair Olsen (Dustin Erickson) of Kindred, ND, Morgan Larson of Wahpeton, ND, Hayden Larson of Lincoln, NE, Abigail (Grant) Waloch-Tweeten of Washburn, ND, and Maxwell Waloch of Baldwin, ND; 18 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; her in-laws, Bob (Joyce) Hayen, Shirley (John) O’Neil, Karen (Ed) Wagner, Marilyn (Darrel) Blain; and many extended family members.
