Allen Nelson, longtime Havana area farmer, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at his home northeast of Havana. He was 72 years of age.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forman, ND. Rev. Nicholas Rohde will be officiating.
There will be a lunch following the service at Havana Civic Center in Havana, ND.
Allen Wayne Nelson was born on March 25, 1946, in Veblen, SD, to Clifford J. “Jack” and Verna Erlanda (Reinertson) Nelson. As a youngster, he was raised on the family farm and attended school in Havana. Following his graduation from Havana High School in 1964, he served two years in the U. S. Army.
After his honorable discharge from military service, Allen lived and worked in the Lincoln, NE, and Denver, CO, areas. In the early 1970’s, he returned to North Dakota and began farming. Eventually Allen bought the family farm and has lived there since that time. He recently had semi-retired, but still had a few cattle.
Allen was a member of the Anderson Wertman Post #108 of the American Legion of Havana, and had served as their commander for a number of years. In his younger days, Allen played on the Havana Softball Team. He greatly enjoyed hunting, and shooting pool with his friends. Allen truly loved anything western — from his complete collection of Louie L’amour novels to “Gunsmoke” on the television, westerns were his favorite. Perhaps the only thing enjoyed more than his westerns was a chance to have a cup of coffee with a friend, and “chew the fat.”
Grateful for having shared his life are his siblings, Dianne Thone of Horace, ND, Rodney (Karen) Nelson of Havana, and Kevin (Judy) Nelson of Wahpeton, ND; eight nieces and nephews and eleven greatnieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother-inlaw, Jerald Thone.
Condolences may be directed to the family in care Rodney Nelson, 222 2nd St., Havana, ND 58043.
