Britton-Hecla school kicked off on August 23. This fall, there are a few new faces around the B-H District. Eight new educators were welcomed this year. The teachers answered a few questions to help the community get to know them.
The Britton City Council meeting on Monday started with a discussion about an easement/ street encroachment. Members of the Cheryl Impecoven trust were present. They noted that several years ago, between the Impecoven property and Ron Tchida’s property, 60 feet of an 80 foot easement was vacated. They now hope to correct a road encroachment. The family requested that the property be surveyed, and the road and each side of it be declared separate lots. The council agreed to move forward with that.
In staffing matters, work agreements were approved for Lindsey Nickeson as a para and Brad Brandt as Bus Driver. They accepted a letter of resignation from Jo Bush as Librarian/EMentor. Open enrollments were approved for a kindergarten from Langford and two kindergarteners from Sisseton.
Artist David Williams stands by his painting that is part of a larger artwork called “Guardians of the Herd.” He is the founder of Joint Operation Mariposa, an organization an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to veterans’ suicide and services to under-represented veterans. Williams is pictured with Heather Allen, Vice President of JOM. The pair stopped at the Britton VFW last week as they traveled with the painting across the country.
David Williams is a Navy veteran with a Traumatic Brain Injury. He is also founder of Joint Operation Mariposa (JOM), an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to veterans’ suicide and services to under-represented veterans. On top of all of that, Williams also happens to be an artist. These different roles brought Williams to Britton last week as part of the special journey.
Due to staffing changes, the hours at Fort Sisseton until October 1 will be Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
