Marshall County 4-Hers were recognized and awarded at a ceremony on Sunday. Above, Jayden Bender and Oliver Moeckly were recognized as SD 4-H Ambassadors. They were also the recipients of the Public Speaking awards. Below, though Carter Effling was not able to attend the recognition event, he took home the Key Award, the Outstanding 4-Her Award and 4-H Archery Scholarship.

County 4-H’ers Recognized

Awards, medals, premiums and other recognitions were handed out to Marshall County 4-Hers in traditional 4-H Clubs members in addition to 4-H Cloverbuds and Pee Wees at the Marshall County 4-H Recognition Event that was held Sunday afternoon at the Marshall County Community Building in Britton.

The Langford Area students worked to raise money for a special cause a couple of weeks ago. The students raised over $1280 for a student from Faulkton right before the schools’ volleyball teams played each other. The funds were raised for Kayden Hammond, a junior who is battling leukemia in addition to complications from West Nile Virus.

Commission Talks Courthouse Plans

The Marshall County Commissioners met on Tuesday. One of the agenda items was a planned discussion about Courthouse work. An ISG engineer was present for the meeting. The commission approved the ISG’s fees, amounting to $15,000, for plans and marketing of the project before an April ballot referendum takes place. In the upcoming months, there will be public meeting held and information on the project dispersed.

Clear Lakers Concerned About GFP Lands Plan

This map shows the area to the northeast of Clear Lake in Marshall County. South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks owns much of this area and considers it a Game Production Area. A meeting between the GFP and Clear Lake residents was held recently about managing this area and handling encroachment problems. The area outlined in blue is the land that the GFP was considering fencing and grazing with cattle.

Clear Lakers Concerned About GFP Lands Plan

A few weeks ago, Clear Lake residents gathered at a home on the lake. They were not the only ones present. A handful of officials from the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks were also at the meeting. The lake folks had a lot of questions.
