Britton Mainstay Comes Down

The building at 760 Vander Horck Ave in Britton was demolished a couple of weeks ago. The spot is owned by US LBM Holdings, the same company that owns Scott’s Lumber. The building was built after World War I and housed Thorp Auto Co. for over 40 years.

A couple of weeks ago, a building that has been a constant presence in Britton for around a century came down. The building and property, at 760 Vander Horck, is owned by US LBM Holdings, the same company that owns Scott’s Lumber. However, it is perhaps better known as the old Thorp Auto building.

Area Veterans Day Programs were pushed back a few days due to last week’s winter weather. Since there was no school at both Britton-Hecla and Langford Area on Friday and the students are very involved in the programs, the events were instead held Monday.

Council Adds $125,000 To Streets Budget

At their regular monthly meeting on Monday, the Britton City Council approved the first reading of the city budget. The original budget as presented had $2.6 million in planned city expenditures for the next fiscal year with $599,000 being dedicated to streets. However, mayor Clyde Fredrickson asked the council to consider adding more to the street fund so more work can be done in the next year.

The 76th Britton Area Snow Queen Festival was held on Saturday. The senior and junior Snow Queens were crowned during the evening’s festivities.
