Recently, a couple local veterans got to take a special plane ride that many others like them have enjoyed previously. Arnold Beck and Norman Carlson were among many vets who were part of the two latest Midwest Honor Flight trips to Washington D.C. The men toured various monuments, memorials, and perhaps most notably, received a welcome that was beyond their imagining.

District Park Supervisor Lori Skadsen stands at the entrance of Roy Lake State Park on the eve of her retirement from the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. Skadsen has worked for the State Parks system for 43 years and was the District 1 Supervisor, overseeing Roy Lake, Pickerel, Sica Hollow and Fort Sisseton State Parks.
By South Dakota standards, Lori Skadsen was a city kid.
