Relay For Life #2 In Nation
Marshall County’s Relay For Life is ranked among the top in the nation once again.
The 2017 fundraising total of $77,748 ranked number two in the country per capita. Based on the county population of 4,656 people, the event raised $16.70 per person. Of all the Relay For Life events in South Dakota Marshall County also ranked third for net revenue.
All funds raised through Relay For Life activities are used to help fund research to find a cure for cancer and to assist area residents with their cancer battles.
Since the Marshall County event began 18 years ago a total of $1,266,272 has been raised. Fundraising totals have ranked in the top five in the nation for the past eight years, including being ranked number one in 2016. The local Relay has also ranked in the top 10 in the country for 17 straight years and has been in the top three in South Dakota for 16 straight years.
The Quarve Quackers, one of the top fundraising teams for the Marshall County event each year, was also recognized as the number two team in South Dakota.
