This is the old Newark School that was built in 1921. The town, established in 1883, once had three grocery stores, a large hardware store, and a barber shop, as well as other businesses.

Newark Lake was an artesian lake that served as a source of power for a creamery and flour mill in Newark and also provided recreation. The sixth person from left is Lily Besuchet (Glarum), mother of Mrs. Kenneth Marcuson.

Ghost Town Has Lively Past
