28th Year For Holiday Event
“A Tropical Christmas” is the theme for the 28th annual Christmas On Parade scheduled for Saturday in Britton.
The event is sponsored by the Britton Area Chamber of Commerce.
There is a change of location for several events this year. The Masons traditional buffalo chili supper will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Event Center located at the football/track field. Loaded baked potatoes, nachos, and hot dogs will also be served. A social hour will be held at the Event Center with coffee and cookies following the parade, and the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Peter & Wendy” is also planned at the Event Center at 7 p.m.
Many businesses will serve a variety of Christmas treats Saturday so that shoppers can enjoy the Taste of Christmas throughout the day. Merchants will also be offering holiday specials.
Santa will pose for pictures at Steen Photography from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for its 15th annual Charity Event. Anyone bringing at least three non-perishable items for the Marshall County Food Pantry will receive a free 4x5 photo with Santa.
Christmas trees will be on display Nov. 30-Dec. 31 at the Marshall County Healthcare Center. Everyone gets a vote for their favorite tree with Britton Bucks going to the first and second place winners. Families, groups, or organizations wishing to decorate a tree may call Stephanie Baker at 605-448-1171 to reserve a spot.
A special family movie matinee is planned at the Strand Theatre. Two short Christmas movies will be shown at 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. with a full length Christmas show starting at 3 p.m. Anyone with questions may contact the Strand Theatre. The regular movie, “A Star is Born,” rated R will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The lighted parade will begin at 6 p.m. Entries should line up north of the hospital at 5:30 p.m. Britton Bucks will be awarded to the most creative floats.
The parade route will be past Spruce Court and the hospital, north on Main to Eighth Street, west on Eighth past the Courthouse to Wheatcrest Hills, then to Highway 10 and back to Main Street, ending at Amacher Auditorium.
The Britton Area Chamber of Commerce also has a couple of holiday promotions running through the holiday season.
Clues will be announced each week in The Britton Journal and on the Britton, SD Facebook page as to the whereabouts of the Silver Bell. The person finding the bell will win $100 in Britton Bucks.
Holiday shoppers may also participate in Holiday-opoly. Cards may be picked up and deposited at Ken’s Food Fair. When cardholders receive 15 punches from participating businesses they are eligible for Britton Bucks drawings on Nov. 29, Dec. 6, Dec. 13, and Dec. 20. Two $50 winners will be drawn each week with two $150 winners drawn Dec. 21. Winners will be contacted and listed on the Britton, SD Facebook page.
